Take this Advice if Planning a Boudoir Session

I have only been a Houston area boudooir photography studio owner for a short time. Already though, I am hearing some really bad Advice on the subject of boudoir photography.

It appears women seeking a boudoir shoot often hear less than wise words regarding hair, wardrobe, support, and cost. I wish to shed a little knowledge on these subjects so anyone can prepare for a boudoir shoot with confidence.  However, I would Advice that you read this Guide to Preparing to make sure many of your questions are not expertly answered there.

Advice about Hairstyle

Your boudoir shoot is not the time to try out a new hairstyle, color, or other major changes to your doo. Your images should reflect you! You on your most glorious day of pampering! So, unless you have purple hair now, don’t subject yourself to a far out hair color for your boudoir shoot, it won’t look like you! Alternatively, if your hair is magenta when you book your shoot – don’t go conservative! Be yourself!

Advice about Wardrobe

Some will suggest wearing an outfit that screams BOUDOIR! That may be true, but its up to you to decide what that might be. For some, a corset with garter and black stockings may be the ticket. For another, however, lacey lingerie and a football jersey may do the trick. When you are photographed for boudoir in mind, it is about your style, your space, your sexy! I want you to share it shamelessly.

As a boudoir photographer I do not want to impart on you my idea of sexy. I want to pose you, light you, show you off for the jewel you are. If that black leather strappy number gets your juices flowing, bring it! Likewise, your hubby’s tool belt might also get your motor running! Always remember, it’s your motor – only you should decide how to crank that baby up.

Advice about Backup

I know a boudoir shoot can make you nervous. Having your BFF, sister, mother, first cousin visiting from Florida, will not enhance your experience. The boudoir session will begin with your nerves in mind. We are going to pamper you, relax you, and reassure you. We are going to be a wonderful source of moral support. Having someone else present is going to make your boudoir shoot more intimidating. Posing can feel awkward at times. Another pair of eyes on you as you are guided into these poses will not be reassuring. The person you bring may be distracting to you. They could also make you feel more selfconscious.

You and I are establishing a relationship, one of trust and support. I need your feedback just like you need mine. I need you to connect with me and my lens, as well as your body. Your BFF may have their own ideas, and then that story is about them, not you. Friends will try to sneak pictures on their phones, also, and that’s a big no no! I work hard to assure privacy!

Advice about Costs

I know it’s a cliché, you get what you pay for, but its true. You may be told that you should shop around for the best price. At Heights Boudoir we take sexy photography very seriously. It’s not a sideline, something to do between weddings or when senior portraits are slow. It’s my baby, because I love it. I love creating art, and I love showing you how beautiful you are, I love pulling that curtain back that women live behind, and reveal themselves. Often, to them selves.

For the serious photographer it’s not just about pressing a shutter button. Boudoir photography is a beautiful form of art and I want you to have a beautiful piece of art to celebrate your sexy. Your art should make you feel proud. I would love for anyone considering boudoir photography to come to Heights Boudoir, but please, if you go elsewhere select someone who values the art. Please do not settle for a couple of digitals on an online gallery. You are worth so much more!

I am not suggesting for one minute that you keep your boudoir shoot a secret, just that you keep it about you! Celebrating your sexy shamelessly – you can do it!
